Jacksonville Skyway

The JTA Skyway is an elevated monorail just over 4 kilometers long fully automated which operates in the center of Jacksonville (Florida). Cross the St. Johns River reaching Kings Avenue on the South Bank. It has 8 stations and provides access to the business district and government buildings, restaurants, shops, museums and other attractions. The operator of this system is Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA).

It is a efficient transportation system, quiet, clean and air-conditioned. It opened in 1989 with 3 stations in the city center.

To encourage the use of public transport and in particular the Jacksonville people mover Jacksonville Park’n Ride lots are available at Convention Center, San Marco and Kings Avenue stations so SkyWay users can leave their cars outside the city center, decongesting downtown traffic and avoiding parking problems. In addition, the JTA Skyway is a completely free system.

It has about half a million users per year (2012).

The JTA Skyway operates Monday through Friday from 6 am to 9 pm
Saturday and Sunday only for special events.

The frequency of 6-9 am and 4 to 6:30 pm, peak time, is 3 minutes. In regular hours, the frequency is 6 minutes.

Security

All Skyway stations are CCTV monitored and have intercoms.
