Prague has a comprehensive transportation system, composed mainly of metro, trams and buses. Of course you can walk downtown but for longer trips, is really worth using it. The advantage is that the tickets are valid for the entire public transport system, which also includes funicular and ferries. All public transport in Prague is managed by the Prague Public Transit Company Co. Inc.
If you come to sightsee, Prague Metro line A or green line is serving the main tourist areas, such as the Lesser Town (Malostranská), the Old Town (Staroměstská), the New Town, shopping areas, etc.
The Prague metro was inaugurated on May 9, 1974. It is the sixth most widely used system in Europe. In 2012 it was used by nearly 600 million passengers. It has 3 lines that serve 57 stations over a total length of 59.4 kilometers of tracks.

Transfer stations are: Muzeum, from C line to A line, Mustek from line B to line A and Florenc from line B to line C. Time needed for a transfer is 2 minutes.
There are 2 more planned lines. The D line that will connect the center to other parts of the city and the E line that would be a circular line.
Line D. There are plans to start building a new line that would connect the city center to the south.

Metro operates everyday from 4.45 am until midnight.
In peak hours frequency is 2-3 minutes. After 19:00 frequency is 4-9 minutes.
Tickets are purchased by time, and are valid for metro, tram and bus. They can be purchased at metro stations, trams and kiosks, Trafiky, PNS, hotels, tourist information offices and information offices. You can also buy tickets from mobile sending SMS DPTNN to 90206 or through Sejf application. There are staff to check if users are travelling using a valid ticket and if they detects they’re not, users would be fined with 700 CZK. There are some inspectors who take advantage of the ignorance of tourists and set a higher fine, so you always have to ask for the receipt for the fine. It is mandatory to validate the ticket before accessing the platforms.
Valid for 90 minutes. Price of 32 CZK for adults and 16 CZK for children and elderly.
Valid for metro, tram, bus and funicular Petřín. This ticket allows unlimited transfers and unlimited stations
Valid for 30 miutes. Price of 24 CZK for adults and 12 CZK for children and elderly. Cant be used in the funicular.
Adults pay 110 CZK. Children and elderly 55 CZK.
Price: 310 CZK.
It costs 550 CZK for adults. It also has a version available for Junior and studentes for 260 CZK.
Seniors can get this pass for 250 CZK.
It is priced at 2450 CZK for adults, 1200 CZK for juniors and students, 1100 CZK for seniors.
Adults are people over 15 years. Children are 6-15 years.
Children under 6 and adults over 70 years travel free.

Parking facilities are available to users of the metro near each station. They can be used during the day.
It is not a free service. Parking for one day costs 20CZK and vehicles must be removed 30 minutes before closing the subway.
You can carry bikes on the subway only during specific hours. Small pets in cages.
The stations are well signposted even for those who do not speak the language. At each station there is an information desk offering help
All stations have escalators and most are prepared for the disabled.
At the moment there is no direct Metro service to the Prague International Airport Ruzyně. But you can go by bus, the nº119 connects with the Nádraží Veleslavín green line metro station. There is another route, in the bus nº100 bus yellow line Zlicin station. The route is 17 kilometers, just over 45 minutes travel time and the price is about 32CZK.
