Hyderabad is one of the mega cities in India in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
It’s also one of the most populated city as more than 8 million people are living in Hyderabad.
It’s a crazy city with more than 3 millions vehicles, and 8 daily millions motorized trips.
So the need of transport systems to relieve traffic bottlenecks, pollution, etc, is a fact and there
is a real need to develop and efficient system.
The solution is the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) and the construction of the new Metro Rail.
Hyderabad Metro Rail Project is the largest public/private partnership project (PPP) in the Metro Sector in the world.
Once completed, Hyderabad will be one of the most modern cities in India.
Hyderabad Metro Rail will integrate existing railway stations, suburban railway network (MMTS)
and bus stations. It will link with MMTS services at Bharatnagar, Begumpet, Malakpet and Falaknuma
and train terminals at Secunderabad, Nampally and Begumpet. Metro Rail will connect with some bus
stations as Miyapur, MGBS, Koti, Dilshuknagar, Charminar and Jubilee. Finally parking facilities will be constructed
along strategic locations. Since September 2012 there is Phase II approved that will add 80 kms to the system.
The system has been designed to be low energy consumption and eco friendly, reducing carbon emissions and pollution.
The Phase 1 of the project has been approved for 72 kms. across the 3 highest density traffic corridors of the city. 66 stations are planned.
Corridors will be elevated and will connect the city with stations separated by a distance of no more than 1 km between stations.
The Hyderabad Metro is under construction and is scheduled to be operating by 2015.
3 interchange stations are also planned. Ameerpet Station for corridors I and III. MGBS Station for corridors I and II and
Parade Grounds Station for corridor II and III
Estimated frequency would be 3 to 5 min during peak hour.
Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) is a light rail system, operating 3 suburban lines with 27 stations along 43 kms of tracks.
It’s used by more than 150,000 passengers everyday. It’s operating since August 9, 2003. It connects Secunderabad, Nampally, Dabirpura, Malakpet, Falaknuma, Madhapur and Lingampally.
There also exist First Class Fares that are about 12 times the General Fare per single journey, above.
The Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum considered in 2013 that the Hyderabad Metro Project was the world’s
largest project under public-private partnership.
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGAI) to Hyderabad city: Taxi and cab services, Pushpak Airport liner and cheaper non-air-conditioned bus services.
There is also a high speed service: PV Narasimha Rao Expressway. Distance is about 40 kms.
