Hyderabad transport systems

Hyderabad is the most populated city in India with than 8 million inhabitants.
It’s a crazy city with more than 3 millions vehicles, and 8 daily millions motorized trips.

Hyderabad is one of the mega cities in India in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
It’s also one of the most populated city as more than 8 million people are living in Hyderabad.
It’s a crazy city with more than 3 millions vehicles, and 8 daily millions motorized trips.
So the need of transport systems to relieve traffic bottlenecks, pollution, etc, is a fact and there
is a real need to develop and efficient system.

The solution is the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) and the construction of the new Metro Rail.
Hyderabad Metro Rail Project is the largest public/private partnership project (PPP) in the Metro Sector in the world.
Once completed, Hyderabad will be one of the most modern cities in India.

Hyderabad Metro Rail will integrate existing railway stations, suburban railway network (MMTS)
and bus stations. It will link with MMTS services at Bharatnagar, Begumpet, Malakpet and Falaknuma
and train terminals at Secunderabad, Nampally and Begumpet. Metro Rail will connect with some bus
stations as Miyapur, MGBS, Koti, Dilshuknagar, Charminar and Jubilee. Finally parking facilities will be constructed
along strategic locations. Since September 2012 there is Phase II approved that will add 80 kms to the system.

The system has been designed to be low energy consumption and eco friendly, reducing carbon emissions and pollution.

  • Number of lines: 3
  • Number of stations: 66
  • Length of the system: 72kms
  • Average Speed: 34kms/h
  • Max Speed: 80kms/h
  • Start operations: 2015

Hyderabad Metro Rail Lines and Stations

The Phase 1 of the project has been approved for 72 kms. across the 3 highest density traffic corridors of the city. 66 stations are planned.
Corridors will be elevated and will connect the city with stations separated by a distance of no more than 1 km between stations.
The Hyderabad Metro is under construction and is scheduled to be operating by 2015.
