The Santo Domingo Metro project in the Dominican Republic was developed by the Oficina Para el Reordenamiento del Transporte (OPRET), who is also the operator and responsible for routine operations and maintenance company. On weekdays the subway works from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 pm. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm
On weekdays, the last train that leaves Centro de los Héroes towards Heroes Mama Tingo, in line 1, is at 10:30 pm and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays at 10:00 p.m.
On weekdays, the last train that leaves Eduardo Brito towards María Montez, in line 2, is also at 10:30 pm and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays at 10:00 p.m.
Service frequency is approximately 1:30 minutes.
A ticket costs DOP$20. For regular travelers thera are electronic cards with multiple tickets and the Boleto Viajero. However the cost of a travel is the same as buying a single ticket, ie DOP$20.
It is a rechargeable smart card. Its price is DOP$60 and you have to reload it with minimum 5 trips (DOP$100).
It’s a card valid for several trips, cheaper than de Boleto Viajero, but after spending the tickets it can not be used anymore.
In most stations there are parking lots for users.
Compared to buses and taxies, Santo Domingo Metro is a relatively cheap transport system as well as quick. That’s why it is widely used in Santo Domingo. The cars are clean and have air conditioning. There is security staff in stations and wagons.
