Belo Horizonte Metro

Belo Horizonte’s metro was opened in August 1986 and was one of the first metropolitan railroads in Brazil.
It serves an area with a population of about 5 million people and 215 thousand people use it daily.
It only has 1 line in operation with 20 stations. There are two more lines projected.
In 2008, 52 million people used this transport system.

Lines and stations

Belo Horizonte’s metro currently has 1 single line operational. There are a total of 20 stations in 30kms.
This line, the red line, starts in El Dorado and reaches Vilarinho. Stations:
El Dorado, Cidade Industrial, Vila Oeste, Gameleira, Calafate, Carlos Prates, Lagoinha, Central, Santa Efigenia, Santa Tereza, Horto, Santa Ines, Jose Candido de Silveira, Minas Shopping, Sao Gabriel, Primeiro de Maio, Waldomiro Lobo, Floramar, Vilarinho.

Line 2 or pink line. It is a projected line. It will be 16,5 kms length.
It will go from Calafate to Barreiro station and will have 6 stations.

Line 3 or green line. This line is projected.
It is estimated that will be approximately 12.5 kms length . It will go to Pampulha Regional Airport from Savassi.

Schedule and frequency

Line 1 runs every day, between 05:45 and 23:00. Journey time is approximately 30 minutes.
It runs every 5-7 minutes at peak times and 13 minutes off-peak. On weekends the frequency is 15 minutes.
